Orr, Acord power Davenport to school record

Senior tailback Jake Acord rushed for 264 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in Class B No. 2 Davenport's 80-58 victory over fourth-ranked Alex last week. For the Bulldogs (3-0), 80 points is the most points scored in program history.

"After scouting Alex, I knew they would have a hard time stopping our offense," Davenport coach John Greenfield said. "I had no idea that we would put up those kind of numbers. And we needed almost all of them."

Quarterback Stevie Orr got in on the offensive fun for Davenport by completing 12 of 22 passes for 267 yards. He passed for two touchdowns and he also rushed for two more.

The point total for Davenport was the most it had scored since recording 76 against Central Marlow in 2011.

Madill squeaks out win against Dickson

Seth Coleman scored on a 45-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter, and Madill was able to hold off Dickson for a 26-25 victory to close out non-district play. Mateo Fajardo and Fermin Lafittia combined to rush for 119 yards for Madill (2-1).

"The kids have worked hard," said Madill's first year coach Todd Vargas. "We still need to improve, but our resiliency showed up once again. The kids played hard the entire game."

Madill now opens District 4A-2 play needing one win to match last year's total.

"The defense the past two weeks has really stepped up," Vargas said. "They have really done a great job of forcing turnovers, and especially with two for scores (against Dickson)."

Sperry wins top-10 showdown at Kingston

Sperry enjoyed a three-hour bus ride home last week after knocking off then-Class 2A No. 8 Kingston, 16-14. With four minutes to go, Sperry's Dominic Goncalves hauled in a 63-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Beau Teel to put the Pirates (3-0) in front for good.

The Pirates fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter but managed to cut the deficit to 14-10 in the second quarter, thanks to a 38-yard field goal by Jacob Sutherland and a 1-yard touchdown run by Bryce Carter.

"Our defense just kept playing and we were able to come back and win the game," Sperry coach Robert Park said.

Teel pased for 215 yards while completing 15 of 29 passes. Dakota Moore paced Sperry's defense with 12 tackles and one sack, and Walker Niver chipped in with six tackles and three sacks.

Dax Hill commits to Michigan

Booker T. Washington standout Dax Hill made his long-awaited commitment on Tuesday night, shocking some with his decision to side with Michigan.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back was weighing offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson. He opted to go with Michigan instead.

While leading the Hornets to the Class 6AII championship last season, Hill recorded 67 tackles, including five in the 6AII championship game against Bixby.

Hill and Hornets start district play on Thursday against Bartlesville.
