It is Week 10 of the 2021 Oklahoma high school football season, and playoffs are just around the corner.

For the final installment of this season’s SKORDLE Sampler, I wanted to share my incredible experience at the world-renowned Mama’s Fish House while on my Hawaiian vacation in Maui.

When we booked our trip and started making plans for our week in paradise, every single person that had ever been to Maui said the same thing: “You MUST go to Mama’s Fish House!”

The world-famous seafood restaurant, family-owned since 1973 in the small town of Paia, at the beginning of the Road to Hana, was literally everything I had heard about and more!

Right on the beach, open air, and serving 5-star seafood dishes.

For an appetizer, we had the crab cakes and these were simply phenomenal!

They were so good, in fact, we almost considered ordering more, but cooler heads prevailed in anticipation of the pending main course. The crab cakes were the best I have ever had in my life, without question.

As for the main course, this choice was made weeks in advance.

Nearly every person that I spoke with had the same recommendation for Mama’s Fish House, which was to get the stuffed fish with lobster and crab, baked in a macadamia nut crust.

For most of my friends and the reviews I read online, it was normally Mahi Mahi fish, but the day I was there it was Kona Kampachi.

All I can really say is that it was the best piece of fish/seafood I have ever had in my entire life! (Sounds like the Crab Cakes in the previous paragraph.)

So fresh and so favorable, I was literally trying to eat it as slow as I possibly could because I didn’t want it to end. This was just an incredible eating experience!

If you ever go, get the stuffed fish with lobster and crab, baked in macadamia nut crust.

If you are ever fortunate enough to visit Maui, it is imperative you visit Mama’s Fish House at some point for either lunch or dinner during your stay. The day after we went to Mama’s Fish House, we were at the top of Mount Haleakala waiting for the sunset above the clouds (which is also breathtaking).

We were visiting with a family from Ohio who had just arrived in Hawaii the day before. They were telling us that they wanted to go Mama’s Fish House, but reservations were hard to come by and they just didn’t know if they were going to make it there during their trip.

I very politely told this family that they had to go and no excuses!

Scratch, claw, fight or beg to go to Mama’s Fish House because it was that good.

I made them promise me that they would go to the best place we ate while in Hawaii.

I really hope they kept this promise and had the same unbelievable dining experience we did at one of the best seafood places on the planet.

Simply put, if you love seafood, you will be blown away by the greatness that is Mama’s Fish House in Maui.
